The real secret to looking and feeling beautiful on your wedding day is to relax, keep it simple and plan ahead - North East Life reveals how
For the bride-to-be busy planning their wedding day, thoughts will be largely consumed with dresses, venues, food options, seating plans and wondering what the weather will be like.
But to ensure you look radiant on your big day, start planning your beauty plan of action well ahead of your wedding.
Tyne and Wear-based Freelance Make-Up Artist and Beauty Professional, Emma Cuthbertson has previously worked for cosmetic and skincare companies including Clinique and Dior.
Emma says: Once you have booked your wedding, it is really important you decide early if you are going to use a make-up artist. If you do decide to go for a professional, then you must book early to avoid disappointment. A good professional will get booked up quickly, especially during the summer months.
If you find you do not usually wear that much make-up or feel unsure about the right colours for you, using a make-up artist is a great option.
Whether you choose to do your own wedding day make-up, or hire a professional, having a make-up trial ahead of the big day is critically important. This will help you to relax both in the run-up to your wedding, and on the day itself, as you will know exactly how your make-up will look, leaving you feeling completely at ease.
Emma suggests arranging your hair and make-up trials simultaneously, in order for you to see how the two will come together.
With so many colours around, questions arise such as do I change my look, go for colours on trend or stick to the make-up I like?
Emma says: I always suggest you work with colours that complement your skin tone. Most brides tend to opt for natural fresh-looking make-up and feel more comfortable wearing eye colours they normally wear.
For wedding day handbag must-haves Emma recommends: Waterproof Mascara (No7 Extreme Length Waterproof Mascara 12), Translucent Pressed Powder (M&S Perfection Matte Finish Pressed Powder with Shine Control in Translucent 9.50), Oil Blotting Papers (Body Shop Tea Tree Blotting Tissues 4 or Boots Skin Clear Shine Blotting Papers 3.49) and Lipstick (Clinique High Impact Lip Colour Range SPF15 14.50).
As an excellent starting point for improving the skins condition, which is completely free and available via your tap, ensure you drink two litres of water per day. Skin which is hydrated and replenished has the added bonus of looking naturally dewy, while
dehydrated skin will appear dull, dry
and less appealing.
It is never too early to start skincare preparations. If you find your regular skincare routine is working for you and keeping skin in excellent condition, you are already on the right track. Add in a regular
weekly face mask or home facial
to ensure your skin remains in peak condition.
For those who do not have a regular skincare system or find skin is dry or blotchy, now is the time to start a new routine. Emma recommends Cliniques 3-Step Skincare System (Trial Size special offer 10 until 9th September or 3-Step Introductory Value Set Skin Types 1-4 20) which cleanses, exfoliates and moisturises skin.
Three must-have skincare products Emma swears by for special occasion make-up preparations are: Clinique Pore Minimiser Instant Perfector which helps to control excess oil and control shine (13.00), Benefit Erase Paste to cover or brighten under the eye area (18.50) and Benefit Eye Base in Lemon Aid, a colour correcting eye make-up primer which works wonders at keeping eye make-up looking fresh all day long .
