Yarm and Eaglescliffe may be small but they offer everything shoppers need
Traders in Eaglesclife have had a tough time in recent months. A devastating fire ripped through parade of shops in May but it says a lot about the town that locals were quick to volunteer their help to the clean-up effort.
The town, which sits beside the Tees, has a wide range of shops and services and is surrounded by glorious countryside, with the North Yorkshire Moors not far away.
And it is easy to see why neighbouring Yarm has proved to be a winning location for footballers and other celebrities. The town, which sits between the Tees and the Leven, scores for its location, its charm and its shops. And its a hat-trick which has won the town fans from far and wide.
Yarm is small and has that friendly atmosphere that small towns can possess but there are controversial plans for a 50m development which could see up to 2000 new homes built in and around the town in the next few years.
The high street here was voted the best in the UK a few years ago and it is not difficult to see why not only does it look attractive and have tremendous historic appeal, it is lined with terrific shops and friendly faces.
Yarm also has a reputation for good living, good food and great shopping. And as well as the fine collection of independent stores along the High Street and around the town, a farmers market is held here on the second Sunday of each month.
