The County Durham company which has got your big day coveredafter
So, youve set the date, chosen your dress and selected bridesmaids dresses and flowers which match your carefully thought-out colour scheme. Then you turn up at the reception to find the room full of clashing shades which ruin all your hard work.
Its the stuff of nightmares for many brides-to-be, but a fast-growing company based in County Durham is helping to make the big day go like a dream.
Simply Bows and Chair Covers was launched by entrepreneur Sarah Pittendrigh three years ago to provide chair covers, table linen and accessories for weddings and special events. Within a year the company opened its first franchised office, in Sunderland, and it now has 10 franchises from Aberdeen to Devon.
Kristy Giblin took on the West Northumberland and Cumbria franchise after using the company for her own wedding and she said: If I hadnt been a bride I might be surprised by the way this has taken off.
The market for chair covers in America is massive and Sarah realised that there simply wasnt the choice or the quality available over here. She hired chair covers for her brothers wedding and was disappointed with what was provided and, having just been made redundant and needing a change of direction, set up her own company.
I spoke to Sarah when I was planning my wedding and the franchise opportunity seemed such a good idea. In lots of hotels the chairs are 15 or 20 years old and can sometimes look a bit tatty, they can also can ruin the colour scheme covers can solve both problems.
The company cater for weddings and events large and small and have encountered some unusual requests, such as the Alice in Wonderland themed wedding where each chair was decorated differently.
And Kristy, from Stocksfield, added: I love the variety and we have the elaborate designs, but we also have more simple more affordable designs. The recession seems to be hitting everything other than weddings. People seem determined that nothing will stop them having the day theyve dreamed of, whatever that may be.
