A profile of people from all walks of life who influence those around them for the better and make a positive difference to the North East
Jane Rutherford has been responsible for transforming Rutherfords of Morpeth from a traditional, family-owned department store into a modern, vibrant lifestyle store.
Gosforth-born Jane is co-owner of the business with her husband, Rutherfords managing director Richard Rutherford, and the couple have three grown-up daughters, Julia, Lucy and Nikki.
Rutherfords has been the flagship department store in the Northumberland market town since 1846, but the shop has moved with the times, selling bang-on trend fashion labels and luxurious home furnishings.
Jane casts her net all over the world for fashions and homewear suppliers, and is particularly influenced by French and Scandinavian styles.
Jane says: We dont want to be just another high street shop - we are a unique lifestyle store. We have amazing customers who I call my own unique people. Weve successfully managed to achieve the balance of maintaining our long-standing, loyal customer base while moving with the times.
