A profile of people from all walks of life who influence those around them for the better and make a positive difference to the North East
Samatha Belcher is the recently appointed Community Curator at the Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle.
She is employed under the banner of Archaeology and the Arts in County Durham, a new project aimed at improving public access to the Museum's archaeology collection.
The project includes a survey of the collection and her main remit will be to engage local audiences through events, activities and voluntary work, with the aim of raising the profile of the collection.
Practising what she preaches, Samantha, a BA Hons graduate, began working as a volunteer in museums while studying at Newcastle University in 2005. She has previously worked at Beamish, the Discovery Museum, and Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens.
'This is somewhat of a dream job for me,' said Samantha. 'It combines my enthusiasm for archaeology and heritage with my experience and passion for working with the community.'
