The North East's top amateur photographers showcase their work
North East photographers distinguished themselves once again in the photographic competition run by Archant Life magazines in conjunction with this years National Countryside Week, launched by The Princes Countryside Fund.
The brainchild of The Prince of Wales, the fund is a unique collaboration of brands and businesses committed to caring for the people who take care of the countryside.
Entries were judged across 10 regions and the regional North East winner was Derek Bates, of Billingham, with a beautiful shot of Hardians Wall.
Derek was invited to a garden party at Clarence House, London, to be personally presented with his award by Prince Charles. He also won an Olympus SZ-30 MR digital camera.
Derek was pipped at the post for the national award by Kris Dutson, or Dorset, with a lovely shot entitled Deer Bells shot in a wood near Maiden Newton, Dorset.
Within our own region, the shortlisted entrants were Christopher Morton, with a photograph of a sunrise over Penshaw Monument; Michael Chambers with St Nicholas Cathedral, Newcastle; Iain Armstrong with sunset over the marsh in Cleveland, and Alan McArdle with a picture taken on the Weardale Way in County Durham.
Well done to you all.
The Gallery section of North East Life is one of our most popular regular features and we welcome the opportunity to display a selection of stunning pictures and to allow their creators to take a well-deserved bow in print.
We are most interested in pictures from within the counties of Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Cleveland. Readers whose pictures are selected will be asked to recognise our right to publish the pictures in North East Life at a date or dates to be decided by the co-editors. We also reserve the right to use photographs for North East Life promotional features. The name of the photographer will be credited on all published pictures.
