Whatever the size of your kitchen or bathroom, it can be big on design and style

It used to be that bathrooms were the smallest room in the house, functional and short on style. But the market has expanded hugely and you can now find a bathroom style and design to suit every requirement and purse.

Up to the minute bathroom design can look great in any home whether its a centuries old beamed farmhouse or modern, contemporary property.

Its important to get the size and style right - a huge claw-foot bath may be fantastic, but not if it dwarfs everything else in the room. And a pretty floral decorated sink in a minimalist penthouse, means youre probably going to have to look again.

And bathrooms arent just about the sanitary ware - think carefully about flooring, mirrors and lighting to complete the look you want. There are even great ideas for TVs and music system to float away your troubles when youre in the bath.

A good idea before you make any firm decisions is to contact the Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialist Association, an organisation dedicated to upholding standards of excellence throughout the interiors industry and to protecting the consumer.

The kitchen is often heart of the home, but family kitchens will need a different approach to that for a modern singleton. But the important thing is to plan. A good kitchen - with appropriate lighting, flooring, appliances and units - can cost more than a lot of other rooms in the house so good planning can avoid costly mistakes.

Most good designs will start with sink, dishwasher and drainer, as thats the biggest unit to fit in. And plan the main areas - sink, food preparation and hob - close together, so that youre not turning making a meal into a marathon.

A good kitchen specialist will plan maximum storage for the space at different heights depending on the weight of items and the size and ability of the main user.

Think about things like ventilation points and electricity sockets. They need to be where its convenient and makes sense to the overall use of the room.

Have a good look at all the great styles available and whatever look you choose for your very important room, make the design is exactly as you want it before you start.
