North East families are bucking the national trend and tucking into hearty and healthy cooked breakfasts.

Recent claims that the Great British Breakfast is in decline as families opt for healthier options, do not reflect North East habits, according to food agency Taste North East - and the regions food producers say sales of sausages, eggs and bacon are rising in line with the trend for high protein diets.

Taste North East says claims by the Good Food channels Big Adventure Breakfast Report that cooked breakfasts are being rejected on health grounds could not be further from the truth in our region.

Marion Schooler, project manager for Taste North East, said: We work closely with a variety of producers and suppliers of items like sausages and bacon and, far from experiencing a dip, they are finding sales of the leaner cuts are rising steadily.
