Scriptwriter of BBC2s Grumpy Old Women, Judith Holder, was the keynote speaker at the inaugural Womens Spring Lunch organised by County Durham Community Foundation.

Hundreds of guests were invited to the SAS Raddison in Durham for the event, which was hosted by Real Radio presenter Lisa Shaw, sponsored by investment management company Brewin Dolphin and also featuring speaker Maggie Hart, founder of the Education Centre for Children with Downs Syndrome.

Chief Executive of County Durham Community Foundation, Barbara Gubbins said: We organised this event as a forum for women from the business and community and voluntary sectors to meet and exchange ideas.

Barbara also highlighted the importance of supporting local community projects saying: For those who have the means, now is a perfect time to start thinking about supporting your community. The need is definitely out there.

County Durham Community Foundation promotes lasting charitable giving across County Durham and Darlington, by bringing together donors with their chosen causes, through well-targeted grants that make a genuine difference to the lives of local people.
