County Durham Community Foundations ever growing Womens Spring Lunch took place on Thursday, 17th May. It was hosted by Lisa Shaw, presenter of Real Radios Sony Gold Award winning Breakfast with Gary and Lisa show, for the third year running.
Women from all sectors came together to exchange ideas, foster new partnerships and learn about philanthropy over a relaxed lunch at the Radisson BLU in Durham City. Supported by Taylor Packaging and Barclays, the event was comprised of a two-course meal, a raffle with prizes including a Barbour Jacket and tickets to see Elton John at Metro Radio Arena. The drinks reception was provided courtesy of Radisson BLU.
Guest speaker, Janet Maitland of Janet Maitland Hair Excellence spoke about her journey. Janet began hairdressing in 1972 and has since built up her successful business, winning various national awards including the Schwarzkopf Creative Team Award 2011. Last year Janet also received the HABB Caring and Compassionate Honour in recognition of the outstanding charity work she has undertaken and the care and support she has given to her staff. Janet also brought along a stylist to give guests hair consultations on which hair and beauty products are best for them. Janet said:
I could never have imagined when I sat looking at Durham Cathedral from Whinney Hill school that my life would take me from fashion shows in Vegas, Los Angeles & Italy, whilst working with a fantastic creative team in Gilesgate, to helping people learn a lifelong skill in India as someone once said it really is a life of surprises!
The event was once again hosted by Lisa Shaw who never fails to make it an exciting and enjoyable occasion for those who attend. Lisa was the first celebrity to sign up as an ambassador of the Community Foundation and fully supports the work they do in the local community. Lisa said:
"It's an honour to be asked to be an ambassador for such a worthwhile and essential charity which works hard to make a real difference to the lives of people in County Durham.
All proceeds from the event go towards the work of County Durham Community Foundation which provides grants to community groups and individuals within County Durham and Darlington, making a genuine difference to the lives of local people.
