Packing for a weekend at Beacon View Farm in the heart of the North York Moors merited serious planning, what would the weather be like? How much walking did we want to do? In the end we took far too much but as my just in case motto rarely fails me, we just had enough room in the car.

Our daughter Georgina couldnt wait to get there but as we passed through the lovely towns and villages, the weather suddenly started to deteriorate, it became misty with distances down to 50 metres and we began to feel a little anxious. We neednt have worried though; the poor weather was sitting only right on the moor tops and as we descended into the village of Castleton the sun came out and stayed for the whole weekend.

We were greeted with beaming smiles from our hosts Liz and Danny Nightingale who showed us to our beautiful home for the weekend. Beacon View is perfectly situated on the side of one of the many hills and dales that surround this marvellous spot.

We loved the wonderful panoramic views from the garden and covered BBQ area. Part of the welcome was a sumptuous collection of Yorkshire fare waiting for us including local beer, a bottle of wine and delicious biscuits; a real treat with so much thought put into it.

After settling ourselves in we decided to go for a short drive into the nearby village of Castleton. On the way we spotted the Castleton and Danby Floral and Horticultural Society Annual Show where local people were proud to share their many traditional crafts with visitors. We decided to join the crowd and had a lovely afternoon just taking in the views and local hospitality.

A few glorious hours later we headed back to Beacon View. Our daughter who normally can be found glued to her laptop was now rummaging through some of the games in a large chest in the sitting room. Before we knew it we had played a game of croquet, a game of tennis and managed to enrol the help of sheep around the barn to retrieve stray balls. When this all became too energetic there were plenty of board games to enjoy too.

Liz told us she decided to begin her self-catering accommodation business after their children had grown up and flown the nest. Beacon View is a detached Grade II listed sandstone barn and is part of Crag House Farm. The barn has its own drive, enclosed garden and large undercover patio with BBQ area and has glorious views across Danby Dale.

Liz said they employed a local builder to convert the barn. A lot of care and attention to detail went into the project including luxuries such as the creation of a wet room next to the master bedroom and a lovely large bath in the main bathroom, with plenty of smellies to help you to unwind.

The beautiful dcor and fabrics throughout the property not only made it feel like home from home but also told you that what you were about to experience would be a real treat. Beacon View sleeps up to six people and as the weekend went on we began to think how good it would be to come back with more of the family. We feel we have found a little piece of heaven here which we want to share with others.
