The AniMotion Show is set to transform Durham Cathedral Cloisters on Easter Monday 8.30 pm, Easter Monday the 21st of April 2014.

A thrilling combination of art, architecture, music and state-of-the-art technology, will join forces for the AniMotion Show – a sight and sound spectacular in the magnificent setting of Durham Cathedral – on 21st of April 2014- Easter Monday.

Russian artist Maria Rud, the founder and creator of AniMotion, will paint live to music by Dame Evelyn Glennie, David Heath, Dolphin Boy, Debussy and Askell Masson. Maria will paint live, in response to the music, the results projected onto the architecture by projection artist Ross Ashton using cutting-edge video mapping.

AniMotion is a concept which started as an experiment and has captured people’s imagination developing into a new artform and a pioneering show which reaches out to audiences who might not ordinarily consider a ‘classical’ music show.

The AniMotion Show was launched in 2012 by Maria and Evelyn at the National Museum of Scotland and drew huge audiences who packed the Grand Gallery for the performance.

In September 2013, AniMotion joined forces with Ross Ashton, creator of spectacular “son et lumiere” around the world among them the celebrated “Crown of Light” which for the past three years illuminated Durham Cathedral.

After a pilot performance at Cambridge Observatory, the AniMotion team amazed the capacity audience in great St.Giles Cathedral Edinburgh by the immersive dream sequence of art and music.

Their new production, unique to Durham Cathedral will integrate not only music and art, but also the performers themselves into the architecture, using the incredible setting of the Cloisters in a way it has never been used before.

Apart from Dame Evelyn Glennie and Maria Rud, the performers include virtuoso flautist/composer David Heath and DJ/Music producer Dolphin Boy.

“If you haven’t yet seen an AniMotion Show you’re missing out on one of the finest artistic experiences around today.” Dame Evelyn Glennie

“The AniMotion Show is a dream which can be shared by many.” Maria Rud.

The AniMotion Show at Durham Cathedral is supported by The Arts Council of England.Contact
