A good place to start when you're spring cleaning is the hallway. If you dont want to go to the expense of a new carpet, hire a steam cleaner and give it a good clean. Paint the ceiling white, then paint the walls in the colour of your choice to tone with your flooring, and add a glamorous large mirror with a gilt frame. You may also wish to wallpaper one wall in a dramatic paper and tone the others in a paint to contrast.

Add a display of flowers in front of the mirror to reflect colour and light in to the room. Stand them on a large piece of furniture as, surprisingly, a large piece makes a space appear larger.

If you want to refresh your kitchen without spending a fortune, simply rub down your old units and give them a lick of paint. Paint in either cream, pale blue or pale grey. Do the walls a toning colour to create a blank but warm canvas, then treat yourself to some lovely bright Cath Kidson mugs, bright tea towels, toaster and kettle in shades of pink and blue and a pretty display of flowers to match.

If you have room for a table add napkins or a table runner in bright colours. Wow - a stunning new kitchen with a cheerful and uplifting feel.

With more hours of daylight and hopefully more sunshine, you may be spending more hours in your conservatory.

Prime the woodwork then paint either pale grey, soft white, or pale blue. The little Greene Paint Co. have lots of similar colours which give a soft French look. If the flooring is dark perhaps you could have a checkerboard floor in either black/white or beige/white, available readily from DIY stores. If you already have furniture and dont like it, try putting a linen table cloth over it down to the floor and decorate with flowers, a candelabra and candles, and wind twinkly lights around mirrors and pictures.

Keep the tones pale and interesting. Soft voile curtains at the windows looks wonderful wafting in the breeze. Then pour yourself a lovely cold glass of wine, relax and enjoy.

Every time I walk into my own bedroom I think how fabulous it looks. My walls are my all-time favourite colour which is Pillar (ordered from the Little Greene Paint Co.) in matt emulsion. The furniture is white, grey or pale blue in a French style. My bedding is taupe silk and the cushions of which there are many are creams, greys and white. A huge mirror in a French style hangs above a chest of drawers and on that I have highlights of pinks and creams in a floral arrangement, my carpet is white. These colours are a recipe for glamour, peace and tranquility.

If you've always wanted a film star sitting room in a Hollywood style then light carpets and pale velvets for curtains will enhance any room. Paint your walls in a soft colour it could be soft taupe, creams or white. A light colour sofa can be dressed with cushions in creams and glamorous golds. Somewhere in the room have the largest mirror you can get and add a candelabra and crystal chandelier. This gives a sumptuous feel for this type of room

If your dinning room is small and uninspiring, with a pine table and chairs and sideboard stunning green of these glasses [SEE PIC] looks great with pine. Paint one wall with citrine from the little Greene Paint Co. - its a perfect match and then find a huge mirror with a cream distressed frame and hang above the dresser. Add an enormous bunch of flowers in citrus green and pink, along with some country leaves. Lay the table with white dinner wear and add fabulous green glasses. A window could be dressed with sumptuous green and vivid pink curtains

Now you're ready for summer.
