An estimated 30,000 people attended the biggest ever Bishop Auckland Food Festival.
The event, featuring around 130 stalls and stands, including one from North East Life, exhibiting food and drink, as well as arts and crafts and various community services, took place in the grounds of Auckland Castle.

Exhibitors attending this year's festival for the first time included stalls offering cheeses, wines, meringues, Italian spices, paella, granola, haggis, Mediterranean vegetables, mustards, rose veal and game.

There was also entertainment from local musicians, arts and theatre groups, and something to suit all tastes with cookery demonstrations and activities for children, as well as a display of vintage cars.

It was the first year Durham County Council had organised the event, after taking over the management from a team of volunteers from the Bishop Auckland Town Centre Forum. n
