Theres a fruity new addition to the range of drinks produced by Newcastle firm Fentimans. Cherrytree Cola has been launched in collaboration with Cherrytree Records and giant inflatable bottles will be on stage during their European tour which will feature LMFAO, Ellie Goulding and The Far East Movement.

The flavour was launched in the States last year after Cherrytree Records CEO Martin Kierszenbaum approached Fentimans to develop a Cherrytree Cola. Eldon Robson, Fentimans managing director and master brewer, said: The brands are compatible in that both offer original popalternatives and this collaboration will also introduce Fentimans to a younger audience across Europe, who I hope will keep buying Fentimans long after the tour is finished.

Eldon is the great-great-grandson of the founder of Fentimans and re-launched the company in 1988 after it had closed in the mid-60s.

The company can trace its roots back to 1905 when Thomas Fentiman, an iron puddler from Cleakheaton, was given the recipe for botanically brewed ginger beer as security on a loan. The loan was never repaid and Thomas began brewing.

After 60 years the company fell on hard times as supermarkets began to dominate the soft drinks market and sales of the Grey Hens the stone jars in which the gingerbeer was sold door-to-door slumped and the company closed down.

After Eldons re-launch, the company now produces eight drinks Traditional Ginger Beer, Victorian Lemonade, Mandarin and Seville Orange Jigger, Curiosity Cola, Dandelion and Burdock, Cherrytree Cola, Rose Lemonade and Brewed Shandy.

The Cherrytree Records European tour will run until April, with four dates in the UK this month, in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow. Go to www.cherrytreerecords.com for ticket details.
