Winners in the first Brilliant Breakfasts competition held by local food project Love Food tasted success at the finals held at Horsley Hall near Stanhope in Weardale.

Winners in the first Brilliant Breakfasts competition held by local food project Love Food tasted success at the finals held at Horsley Hall near Stanhope in Weardale.


There was a great response to the competition, designed to find the best served breakfast in the North Pennines. Love Food supports the production, promotion, use and appreciation of locally grown or reared food throughout Teesdale, Weardale, the Allen Valleys and Derwentside.


Love Food director, Hazel Coppack said: The standard of the entries was very high and we were pleased to see the range of local produce. All entrants appear in a Brilliant Breakfasts leaflet which will go out throughout the area.


Winners were: bed and breakfast southern area - Crich House, Barnard Castle; bed and breakfast northern area - Dowfold House, Crook; hotel southern - Headlam Hall Hotel, Headlam; hotel northern - Lovelady Shield, Alston Moor; caf southern - Caf 1618, Middleton in Teesdale; caf northern - Knitsley Farm Shop Caf, Consett.


Overall Champion bed and breakfast was Crich House, the hotel was Lovelady Shield and the caf Knitsley Farm Shop Caf.


A special award for Local Food Hero went to Dowfold House and another for the Alternative Breakfast to The Forresters, Middleton-in-Teesdale.
